About The Artist
In 1985, the Lord led Douglas Hamm from the Midwest to Roosevelt, Arizona. Hamm and his wife share a love of fine art. While Hamm concentrates on photography, Susan's medium is watercolor painting. After 35 years as a commercial and architectural photographer, Hamm is devoting all of his photographic efforts to doing the Lord's work. His desire is to use the gift that God gave him to win people to Christ. All his photographs are exactly as seen through the artist's lens. There has never been, nor will there ever be any manual or electronic enhancements.
Douglas Hamm's fine art photographs represent the timing of a professional athlete and the learned techniques of the great Ansel Adams. Hamm joined the U.S. Navy in 1961 as an aerial photographer. He came to know and enjoy aerial work. During his Carmel, California years, opportunity abounded. He had the pleasure of studying under and working with the finest photographers: Ansel Adams, Wynn Bullock, Al Weber, Arnold Newman, Dora Bothwell and Ralph Putzker. These years seasoned Hamm's work with skill, motivation and the realization that he had truly discovered his medium of expression. He is influenced by the works of Man Ray, especially his imagery (surrealistic images) in his drawings and Ray O Graphs, painting and Photographs.
Hamm's hobbies are crappie fishing on Roosevelt Lake and Dutch oven cooking. He calls his outdoor cooking area the "Doug Out" and truly enjoys cooking for friends. The Hamm's are members of the Desert Community Christian Fellowship Church where he is a Deacon, serving the community in many ways. Douglas Hamm's art is shown in major art museums, galleries, and private collections. His work can also be found in churches and large health care centers, serving as a silent witness to the love of God for all His children.
